Digital Radio
The system for digital radio in official public service currently is DAB. The development of digital radio in Germany has been hindered by the federal structure of the country. Media is the responsibility of the Länder, and there have been sharp differences between them on digital radio policy. DAB is therefore not as well-developed in Germany as it could have been by now. The Länder, the Landesmedienanstalten and the public-service broadcasters have agreed on a "relaunch" of digital radio and have applied to the spectrum regulator for frequencies. The private-sector broadcasters are less enthusiastic, to put it mildly, and one of the associations of private-sector companies has said it will not participate in the relaunch. Funding for the public-service broadcasters was blocked earlier this year by the body that distributes the proceeds from the licence fee. It is likely that a relaunched digital radio service would use DAB+. There are ensembles operating in both Band III and L-band, but the trend has been to migrate the L-band services into Band III. There is already some broadcasting using DRM.
Digital Television
The system for digital television used in Germany is DVB-T, using MPEG 2. High-definition broadcasts are available only via satellite, not yet by terrestrial transmitters. Some experimentation of broadcasts for reception on portable receivers "Handy TV" using T-DMB has taken place.
When comparing internet retailers, remember to include the cost of delivery in your calculations.
Retailers with low headline prices can often have higher delivery charges. Comparison websites usually list the lowest headline price first, but the best deal may be lower down the list.
I'd be grateful to receive information about other receivers.
