PC/Mac receivers for DVB-T digital television

At the present time, this page lists ONLY receivers known to be suitable for DVB-T. A new, more efficient standard has been developed. This is known as DVB-T2 and will be used in the United Kingdom to broadcast high-definitiion television from terrestrial transmitters. As receivers become available, they will be listed on their own page.

Retailers with low headline prices can often have higher delivery charges. Price comparison websites usually list the lowest headline price first, but the best deal may be lower down the list.

Reading the blurb, you'd be forgiven for thinking that the main attraction of this receiver is that it allows you to record one channel while watching another. This is true. However, Wohnort's main reason for using this receiver is that it can be used in Diversity mode: The stick has two antenna sockets. The signal from each antenna is fed to its own tuner. The stick then routes to its output whichever tuner is producing the better signal at any instant. The use of this technique results in much more reliable television reception. (Since both tuners are receiving the same channel, in diversity mode you cannot watch one channel while recording another).

In territories such as Australia, Norway, New Zealand, Singapore and Sweden, that are broadcasting HD television using DVB-T, this stick will receive those transmissions at up to 1080i. You need a pretty fast Mac to be able to decode those however, even more so if the transmissions are encoded using MPEG4, as in Norway.

In the UK, HD TV will be transmitted terrestrially using DVB-T2. This stick does not receive DVB-T2 and therefore will only receive standard-defintion TV in the UK.

Bide your time. Such receivers will appear in due course.
